The accident happened in Yonkers at around 11 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, when a vehicle traveling southbound attempted to switch lanes, causing a chain-reaction collision, according to New York State Police.
According to a preliminary investigation, the driver, a 32-year-old Hyde Park man, attempted to move from the right lane to the left lane, striking a second vehicle in the center lane. That vehicle then collided with a third car in the left lane.
The second vehicle was pushed back into the right lane, where it then forced a fourth vehicle into a guardrail, investigators determined.
The driver of the car that caused the crash and his passengers were transported to Jacobi Hospital for evaluation. Meanwhile, the driver of vehicle two, a passenger from vehicle three, and all occupants of vehicle four were transported to Westchester Medical Center for further evaluation.
Following the investigation, the Hyde Park man was issued multiple tickets for vehicle and traffic violations, police said.
